Ask a Nutritionist
What are pears and what are their health benefits?
There are over 100 varieties of pears grown around the world! They are bell-shaped, sweet fruits that are packed with nutrients!
Specifically, they are a great source of fiber, vitamin C, folate, copper potassium and antioxidants. Interestingly, the skin of the pear has up to 6 times more antioxidants than the flesh. Antioxidants are important for reducing cell damage from the atmosphere, UV rays, pollutants, and heavy metals.
Pears contain 6 grams of fiber! Fiber is important for maintaining a healthy gut. It is recommended that adults eat 25-30grams of fiber every day. However, in the United States, the typical adult only eats 14 grams of fiber a day. Adding a pear as a snack or into your favorite smoothie or salad is a great way to increase your daily fiber intake!
