What is mint and what are its health benefits?

Mint is an aromatic herb that has a cooling and refreshing aroma and flavor. There are different types of mint, such as peppermint and spearmint. Mint is widely used in different ways. Its extract is often used as an essential oil and added to food products such as gums. Mint has a compound called menthol, which may help with digestion problems and cold symptoms. You can use fresh mint leaves in cooking. Try this refreshing strawberry mint water for a hot day!

Recipes We Love!

  • This blue corn porridge is simple and delicious! Use the blue cornmeal in your ReFresh bag to make it.
  • This sweet potato muffin recipe is a good option for snacks. It has beta-carotene, which is beneficial to our eye health.

The City of Albuquerque is offering a Summer Recreation Program for youth. This program will take place from June 14- August 6, M-F 7:30-5:30 pm. This year space is limited, so the city will be conducting a lottery to decide who may participate in these programs. Lottery entry is open from May 3-14th. Click here to learn more. For detailed instructions on lottery registration click here (English), or here (Spanish).

This week your Refresh bag will include many of the following delicious fresh and staple items:

* NM grown / NM made. We raise money to purchase these foods from local farmers and food producers as a concrete way to invest in our local food system and get delicious, fresh, local food to our ReFresh families. Keep an eye out for these local farms and food businesses when you do your food shopping. ReFresh boxes will always include local food items.

Thank You!

Special thanks to all of the farmers and food producers working so hard to feed our communities; our partner organizations who help recruit ReFresh families: Kids Cook!, YES Housing, Together for Brothers, SWOP, Centro Savila, Encuentro, and Mandy’s Farm; to the staff, volunteers, donors, and ReFresh families who make the program work, and to our partners at MoGro Mobile Grocery, who pack these beautiful ReFresh bags each week for us, and who do so much important work connecting communities to healthy food throughout New Mexico. There would be no ReFresh program without all of you – we love our partners!
