Featured Bag Item

What is Chard and what are its health benefits?
Chard is a leafy green that can be different colors at the stem. Usually green, yellow, pink, red and purple. Chard belongs to the beet family, but has a mild, earthy taste.
Nutrition information: Chard contains a large amount of vitamin A. It is high in calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium.
Storage: Store chard in the refrigerator, away from apples, pears, plums or tropical fruits. Store unwashed leaves in perforated plastic bags in the coolest part of the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days. The stalks can be stored longer if separated from the leaves.
Preparation: Remove packaging, separate the leafy greens, rinse them thoroughly under cold water, and soak them in a bowl of water. Then, you drain out the water making sure all dirt has been removed. A salad spinner can also be used to clean. It can be eaten raw, cooked, sauteed, steamed or even grilled. It can be added raw to a salad or soup.

*NM grown / NM made We raise money to purchase foods from local farmers and food producers as a concrete way to invest in our local food system and get delicious, fresh, local food to our ReFresh families. Keep an eye out for these local farms and food businesses when you do your food shopping. ReFresh bags will always include local food items.
Special thanks to all of the farmers and food producers working so hard to feed our communities; to the staff, volunteers, donors, and ReFresh families who make the program work, and to our partners at MoGro who pack these beautiful ReFresh bags each week for us, and who do so much important work connecting communities to healthy food throughout New Mexico. There would be no ReFresh program without all of you – we love our partners
